'Impressions of Yesterday' cast set to take show on road

QUINCY -- Quincy Community Theatre will bring the impressionist movement to life for hundreds of students this spring with the play "Impressions of Yesterday."

Produced as part of the theater's QCT on the Road program, "Impressions of Yesterday"explores the impressionist movement through the eyes of two young girls -- Lauren and Sarah. When their mother purchases an old trunk filled with junk at auction, artists and innovators from the impressionism movement appear from inside.

Every year, QCT on the Road brings a full production to schools, libraries and community facilities to provide an educational and theatrical experience for students throughout the area. This year's production will be experienced by over 2000 students at schools and libraries throughout Illinois and Missouri.

The tour will also feature a study guide created in collaboration with Quincy Art Center to provide students with additional information about the historical figures portrayed on stage.

"‘Impressions of Yesterday' is a funny, modern script that shares elements of history, art and science in a way that will be accessible to students of all ages," says Head of Education Kelsey Celek. "Audience members who are fans of impressionist artists and inventors will be delighted to see some of their favorites live on stage; those who aren't will get the chance to explore a new style. I can't wait to share this production with Tri-State students."

Different casts will rotate performances of "Impressions of Yesterday." This spring, the cast will feature ten local students representing homeschool programs, Hannibal Middle School, Highland Elementary School, Palmyra Middle School, Quincy Junior High School and Quincy Notre Dame.

Appearing in the show are Kaitlyn Drew and Sophia Dwight as Sarah; Lily Twaddle and Lexi Mero as Lauren; Kayla Hinton and Georgia Wilson as Mary Cassatt, Anna Pavlova, Claude Monet, and Orville Wright; Kimora Johnson and Kaitlyn Buckwalter as Mom, Isadora Duncan, Nellie Bly, Nikola Tesla, and Picasso; and Joey Engelmeyer and Aidan Hutton as Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Thomas Edison, and Wilbur Wright.
