Hannibal, Canton to host plein air art competition

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The cities of Hannibal and Canton will host a two-day plein air painting event May 5 and 6.

Plein air events invite artists to communities where they create paintings outdoors and on-site. Painters will converge upon Canton on May 5 and Hannibal on May 6. All artists of all ages are invited to attend.

Artwork must be done outdoors during the event. All paint and drawing mediums are accepted. There are no size limits on canvas and paper.

Artists will work on site within a designated area determined by each city. Artists must work on public property or on private property with landowner’s permission.

Each evening, up to two artworks completed earlier that day may be turned in for judging and for purchase. Daily receptions for the general public will be held in each of the communities from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The May 5 reception will be held at the 4th Street Warehouse, 112 N. Fourth St. in Canton.
