A stellar cast will light up the stage in Quincy Community Theatre’s upcoming musical “Godspell,” March 7-10 and 14-17.
Lightly based on the Matthew’s gospel, this story brings the parables of Jesus to life on stage. “Godspell,” by Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer of “Wicked” and “Pippin,” draws from various theatrical traditions. It was — and continues to be — a groundbreaking reflection of the life of Jesus with a message for today of kindness, tolerance and love. Songs include “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Day by Day” and “Turn Back, O Man.”
The show features strong vocalists from Quincy and LaGrange, including Brendan Brand as Jesus, Brittany Daly as Gilmer, Sarah Droege as Robin, Rachel Foster as Peggy, Shawn Jones as Lamar, Josh Kollitz as Herb, Cori Lyssy as Joanne, David Samuels as Jeffrey, Joshua Scott as Judas, and Courtney Stewart as Sonia.
“Godspell” is under the direction of managing artistic director Lenny Bart with vocal director Becky Payne, choreographer Cheryl Kaiser and is conductor Mike Saul. Scenic and lighting design is by technical director Paul Denckla with costumes by resident designer Anna Grywalski. Trevor Ketteman serves as the stage manager.
Tickets are $20, on sale Feb. 11. For tickets or more information, visit 1qct.org or call the QCT Box Office in the Oakley-Lindsay Center to make a reservation.
“Godspell” is sponsored by The Quincy Herald-Whig and Blessing Health System. Media sponsors for the 2013 season are STARadio, Charter Media, WGEM, The Quincy Herald-Whig, Media Development and KHQA.
