From the Band
Days are not given, they’re taken. Life is in front of you every second of every day, but if you don’t grab it and hold on tight, it will fly by without you. The members of Days Taken live this ideal, seizing every new experience with a white knuckle tightness born of passion, perseverance, and an innate love of playing music. With members hailing from across Western Illinois & Eastern Missouri, Days Taken has, in a few short years, become a force to reckon with in the region. The band was formed in late 2008 and quickly skyrocketed to prominence in the local scene. Stylistically compared to groups like Breaking Benjamin, Alice in Chains, and Godsmack, the members of Days Taken draw inspiration from various branches of rock music produced over the last several decades, while their sound is firmly rooted in the genre of post-grunge hard rock. Years of writing and personal experience led Days Taken to the studio in early January 2011 to record their first full length album ‘Weight of the World.’ Having begun songwriting as a teenager, Scarber’s lyrical style has evolved from the angst driven songs of a young adult, to well-crafted and memorable refrains meant to leave a lasting impression on the listener. Scarber strives to craft a story within every song, where no words go wasted and every line has meaning. The harmonies and counter melodies contributed by Williams and Page come from combined thirty-plus years of playing and are interlaced with each other and Scarber’s lyrics with practiced precision. This mix is then pushed to its limits by smooth rhythms and finely crafted bass lines by Bounds, before finally being driven home by the thunderous rolls and crisp, energetic beats of Billings. Days Taken’s love of music and the dedication of their ever-growing fan base (collectively known as Days Nation) has allowed them to reach far beyond the limitations of their rural home territory, playing for thousands in Larger venues throughout the region. Their music resonates strongly, whether headlining a stage at a St. Louis amphitheater or rocking the stages of smaller clubs, and has led to the band making several guest appearances on tours with national touring acts such as Saliva, Hurt, Hail The Villain, Kopek, Cold, Egypt Central, and more. Currently, Days Taken’s first two singles ‘Tonight’ & 'Mary' are being played all over the Midwest on everything from small local stations to larger stations like St. Louis alternative rock powerhouse 105.7 The Point.
